Ugadi is one of the famous festivals celebrated among the Hindus with great pomp and fanfare. Ugadi is celebrated as the New Year of the Telugu and Kannada people. It is not only celebrated by the Hindus but also by Sindhis and Maharashtrian people. The festival is known by different names in different states.
History of Ugadi: According to Hindu mythology, it is believed that Lord Brahma started creation of the universe on Ugadi. The first day of the nine-day festival that celebrates the nine forms of Goddess Durga – Chaitra Navratri – is celebrated as Ugadi to mark the beginning of the creation of mankind by Lord Brahma.
